IT Power is part of an important project which is allowing solar electric (photovoltaic) power to be seen in all parts of the country as part of a UK Government programme to support important British technologies which will be needed in the next 10 years.
Children who already study renewable energy subjects in theory will be able to experience solar electricity (photovoltaics) in 100 schools and colleges. Although photovoltaic systems are made in Britain and by British companies overseas they are still virtually unknown and most systems are exported.

The Scolar Programme is part of the UK Governments Foresight Initiative. The Foresight Committee selected photovoltaics as the highest priority energy source which it wished to promote. The Scolar programme was one of 24 winners from an initial 530 submissions.
The project aims to bring the technology faster to a whole generation and, by using photovoltaics on a bigger scale today, will contribute to avoiding energy problems of the future.
The project consortium includes many of the key players in the UK photovoltaics industry. IT Power is playing an important role in the programme and its management. The members of the consortium include academics, industrialists, etc. who have established reputations in the international arena.
The Foresight panel has allocated £1 million to the Scolar programme. These funds will be matched by the consortium members. Schools who wish to be part of the scheme make a financial contribution toward the cost of the system. In addition to the hardware provided the school gains access to the Internet and the opportunity to gain real time experience of photovoltaic power, through a specially tailored teaching programme.
The photovoltaic systems are being presented in a variety of architectural styles: open walkway; shading elements and wall mounted. The systems are for demonstration purposes. They include monitoring equipment which can be used by the students.
