Dear Science and Technology Teacher,

Solar Works, Inc. was recently chosen by the Rhode Island Energy Collaborative to initiate a rooftop photovoltaic (PV) program in Rhode Island (RI). This program will offer a variety of utility-interactive solar electric systems for installation on residences, schools, and public buildings.

Supported with funds from the RI Utility Restructuring Act and the U.S. Department of Energy, participants will be able to install PV systems and generate clean, renewable electricity on their buildings. As a part of this project, Solar Works is initiating a "Solar Schools" program that will enable public and private schools to install PV systems as an educational and energy savings resource.

Solar Works has partnered with EcoSage Corporation of Chelsea, VT to provide an Internet-based, energy education activity---SolarQuest---for Project SunRIse. This educational activity will allow any school to utilize rooftop PVs as a resource to support core subjects across the curriculum, including mathematics, science, social studies, and English from grades 5 - 12. EcoSage Corporation will provide professional development for teachers. Curriculum activities for students will be correlated to Rhode Island standards of learning. Funding for school PV systems will come mainly from private industry sponsors supplemented with federal and state renewable energy program monies.

Solar Works and EcoSage Corporation are seeking your school's input and potential involvement by attending an informational meeting at Woonsocket on Wednesday, June 10, 1998. The conference agenda and a School Registration Form are enclosed.

Our goal is to have at least one teacher and one student representative from each Rhode Island School District. Please let us know if you or a representative from your school can attend by completing and returning the enclosed registration form or by registering on-line at http://www.solarquest.com.

Please note that federal and state resources for Project SunRIse are limited. Your prompt response to this letter by registering and attending the informational meeting at Woonsocket High School will insure you school will be able participate. Please forward your registration form to EcoSage Corporation, RR 1, Box 72, Chelsea, VT 05038.

We look forward to seeing you on June10th.
